Kayaking Tours
British Columbia

Enjoy Orca (killer whale) viewing and Native Culture while sea kayaking the picturesque Johnstone Strait. Drive to Vancouver Island for this unique wilderness adventure. You will kayak daily to where the orcas, sealions, porpoises, humpback and minke whales can be seen. You will also be able to visit native petroglyphs and an abandoned ancient native village site. You will hear the legends and centuries old lore of the Kwakwaka'wakw people and learn about their lives prior to European contact.

Day 1. Vancouver-Nanaimo- Campbell River (5 hrs)
Arrive Vancouver. Pick up your rental car and drive via BC Ferries to Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. Continue north 2 hrs to the oceanside fishing town of Campbell River. You may want to see the Gildas Box of Treasure Native Dance Theatre in the afternoon. Enjoy the evening walking along the harbour where you can see the fishing boats coming in with their day's catch.

Day 2 Campbell River - Alder Bay (2 ½ hrs)
Drive north along the scenic Oceanside hwy to Alder Bay. In the afternoon you will be transferred to 'Gala kas la' floating lodge. Accommodations are in a heated floating lodge equipped with kitchen, livingroom, bathroom and comfortable sleeping areas. Sleeping area consists of multiple bunks in one room. At the end of your exhilarating and eventful day, you'll be nestled in a warm dry bed.

Day 3-4 Kayaking
Adventure After breakfast the guides will conduct a kayak orientation discussing kayak safety and paddling skills. The remainder of the day will be spent exploring the area by kayak and observing Orcas in their natural environment. You will have the opportunity to explore the islands in the area. The main focus will be spent locating the Orcas and visiting culturally significant areas.

Day 5 Native Cultural Interpretive Tour
Today visit Village Island, taking an interpretive tour of the abandoned native site at Mammalilaculla and listening to Tom Sewid, native guardian. You will also take part in a traditional native salmon BBQ.

Day 6 Alder Bay-Campbell River
After a morning kayaking tour, you will be transferred back to Alder Bay. Return drive to Campbell River.

Day 7 Campbell River-Vancouver
Drive to Nanaimo. Take the BC Ferry back to Vancouver and return the rental car. Your Kayaking Adventure is at an end.
